Located on the Bay of Bangkok, Pattaya is named for the winds that bring in the rainy season each year. Though it has been a city for over 300 years, it is only in the last few decades that Pattaya has really turned into a destination in Thailand. For many years it was a simple fishing village. That only changed when American service personnel began taking their leave time in the 1960′s in Pattaya because it had incredible beaches. Since then, hotels have replaced fishing huts and the city is now home to the largest shopping mall on a beach in Asia. That’s not, however, the only reason to visit this city!
One of the cleanest beaches in Pattaya, Jomtien Beach is also outside the normal hustle and bustle of the city so you can get away and relax for a while. There is watercraft available to rent if you wish, plenty of covered seating available for you to enjoy the outdoors, and fantastic food options that are incredibly affordable. It is a smaller beach that can sometimes experience bigger waves, so it’s not always a great place to take a swim, but it is a nice place to just relax and enjoy the day.
Khao Kheow has a little bit of something planned throughout the day that time just seems to fly by. The area of Kaho Kheow is divided into three parts: a place for research where zoologists work on assisting endangered species survive, a public recreation area, and a zoo. If you love to be up close and personal with animals, then you’ll love the zoo area quite a bit! There are very few cages, allowing the animals to roam in naturalized open environments. There are shows available to watch and you can even purchase fruits and vegetables to feed to some of the animals. It is definitely a day trip to make when you visit Pattaya, but one worth making.
If you love motorcycles and the outdoors, then be sure to take up one of the tour companies that will take you on a guided tour around the countryside of Pattaya. Available in 2 hour, 4 hours, or full day increments, for an affordable price you can rent a motorcycle or a dirt bike and enjoy yourself in a unique way. Coaching is available on site, there are different rates available if you’d prefer to ride a bike instead of drive one, and you won’t find scams like you can find sometimes on the beach where a provider may offer you one price, but then demand another when you’ve completed the experience. Definitely a great time!
If you’re ready to experience a great time in Thailand, you can’t go wrong with Pattaya. Over 8 million people made the choice to visit this stunning location on the coast in the last year. Will this be the year that you book your trip? From the spiritual to the physical and everything in-between, there is something for everyone in Pattaya that will allow them to experience a relaxing good time.
